Bio
At GlobalFoundries (GF), an international leader in feature-rich semiconductor manufacturing, John designed, implemented, and oversaw the company’s first-ever global Ethics & Compliance and Environmental Social Governance (ESG) functions.
Working closely with executive leadership and the board of directors, John established an infrastructure to ensure an ethical culture. He implemented a network consisting of influential cross functional representatives across eight locations in five countries, a global whistleblower helpline, and annual leader driven training.
Under his ESG leadership, GF was named to Newsweek’s list of “America’s Most Responsible Companies 2023” and ranked in the top 5% as a “Low Risk” semi-conductor company by Morningstar Sustainalytics (see link at right).
John also served as Secretary to the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee (ARCC) of the Board of Directors. He led all of the above before, during and after GF’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) in October, 2021.
Joining GF at a time of rapid expansion, John’s roles also included the company’s first US Employee Relations leader and global leader of both Talent Acquisition and Learning and Organizational Development. In this capacity, he managed direct and indirect reports throughout the US, Germany, Singapore, India, and China.
Before joining GF, John held key HR positions at medical device maker Boston Scientific Corporation (BSC). While directing the HR function for an ~800 employee operations facility, John was tapped to lead an HR transformation of the company’s global service delivery model, including:
Upgrading a people management system
Launching a new learning management system
Implementing new employee and manager self-service capability
Creating service support centers in Hungary and Canada
Leading the first-ever HR Service Excellence function
John began his career in private legal practice, focusing on labor and employment matters. Representing both public and private employers, his work included collective bargaining, grievance processing, and arbitration hearings. He has appeared before state and federal courts as well as administrative bodies including the New York Division of Human Rights and the National Labor Relations Board.
A graduate of Albany Law School, John was recently awarded the Distinguished Professor Practitioner Award by his alma mater. As Adjunct Professor in the graduate studies program, he currently teaches Employment Law and Ethics & Compliance.
